Why mobile OCR software is a future

Digitalization has had a significant impact on document processing. Passport scanners such as 3M AT9000, Access OCR640, ARH Combo Smart , Plustek OpticSlim 550 Plus , 3M CR100 and others cannot help automate passport processing when the customer’s passport is not in the office.

The second problem with traditional passport scanners is business scaling. They do not allow to provide services outside the office, provide services at the customer's home or allow the customer to fill out the contract himself.

This is why companies are increasingly preferring mobile solutions. When using the Smart Engines SDK, document recognition can be performed using a smartphone. There is no need to send photos to cloud services. So there's no need to worry about good network coverage.

The passport recognition system can be combined with reading a photo from the chip (NFC technology). But due to technical limitations of the chip it takes 10-12 seconds to read the photo. For 10 passports you will spend about 2 minutes only to receive photos without time for OCR.

The software from SmartEngines allows you to correct the perspective of the passport photo and gently extract the face.
A passport photo of ~1000x1000px is processed for up to 2 seconds on a modern processor.
